Agxem Sports Club stormed into the next round of the Caniza Peixoto Memorial tournament with an emphatic 5–2 win over Sporting Club of Virabhat at the St Alex Church ground, Curtorim, on Tuesday.
Michael set the tone for the match by scoring in just the 5th minute. Maxwell Castanha added to Virabhat’s woes with a goal in the 22nd minute, giving Agxem a 2 – 0 lead before the first-half break.
The second half
began in similar fashion, with Agnelo Gomes scoring in the 32nd minute to snatch the momentum and Prinson Martins following goal in the 40th minute to get on the scoresheet as well. Maxwell completed his brace in the 43rd minute,
making it a 5–0 blowout in favour of Agxem.
Virabhat managed to stem the tide, pulling two goals back late in the game through Rice Fernandes and Sydney Fernandes in the 30th and 47th minute of the game respectively but the gap was too
wide to bridge.
