Chinchinim: Ambelim Sports Club clinched a narrow 1-0 win over Raia Sporting Club in the Anil Kamat Memorial Tournament, thanks to a decisive second-half own goal.
Raia SC’s Joswel Cardozo forced a sharp save from Ambelim keeper Ozen Silva in the 4th minute, while Floyd Furtado fired just wide at the other end minutes later. Despite promising runs from Raia’s Leran Dias, both sides missed key chances as the first half ended goalless
The second half saw Ambelim manager Steno Rebello make a decisive tactical switch, bringing on Semson Fernandes to inject fresh energy into the attack. The substitution paid off almost immediately.
In the 48th minute, goalkeeper Ozen Silva launched a long goal kick into the opposition half, where Semson challenged Raia defender Joyson Gauncar in the air.
As both leapt for the ball, it was Gauncar who misjudged the clearance and inadvertently headed it into his own net — a costly error that handed Ambelim the lead.
Raia pressed hard in the closing stages for an equaliser. But Ambelim’s backline held firm to seal a 1-0 win.
