With uncertainty over whether Goa will host any electronic dance music (EDM) festival this year, the state government has moved to organise a mega music festival in December.

“The Tourism Department has floated an expression of interest (EOI) inviting event production agencies to conceptualise and execute a mega music festival in the state. They should conceptualise and execute the festival at no financial burden to the state. We will ask them to make a detailed presentation of the concept,” said a government official.

The official said Goa is celebrated as India’s hub for music, culture and lifestyle, and the December festival would further strengthen its global positioning.

“The month of December is a peak tourist season and if Goa hosts a high-end mega music festival it will attract more tourists, national as well as international,” the official said.

The festival will be endorsed by the Tourism Department and promoted through official Goa Tourism platforms and channels. “The department will also provide assistance to the selected company for coordination with state and local authorities to obtain the required departmental permissions,” the official said.

As per the EOI, the festival is envisioned as a flagship celebration of diverse music genres, cultural showcases and lifestyle activations, designed to attract both domestic and international audiences.

The selected company will be required to identify a suitable land parcel
with a valid no-objection certificate or consent from the landowner, and submit it for approval. It will also have to develop the festival’s overall theme, positioning and creative identity, including name, logo, tagline and visual design aligned with Goa’s global tourism brand. The plan must include a multi-day, multi-genre programme with lifestyle elements.
