Around 1,000 police personnel deployed for Shirgao jatra

Goa police have deployed around 1,000 police personnel for smooth conduct of Shree Devi Lairai jatra at Shirgao, Bicholim.

Police said that the highest-ever deployment was made to maintain law and order and for the smooth conduct of
the annual jatra.

SP North Goa Akshat Kaushal said that plain clothes police personnel have been deployed to keep check on the activities of criminals and anti-social elements and to prevent and detect crimes like pick pocketing, eve teasing etc. 

He said that proper coordination is maintained with the managing committee of the temple.

“Aerial drones have been placed for covering the aerial view and to maintain surveillance on the movements of the crowd. Vajra Van (riot control vehicle) is also stationed at the venue,” said Kaushal. 

According to the police, 1 DySP, 14 police inspectors, 28 police sub-inspectors, 16 assistant sub-inspectors, 50 head constables, 310 police constables and 65 lady police constables from North Goa district police have been deployed for effective crowd control, safe and smooth passage to the devotees.

Besides, 3 male platoons and 2 female platoons of IRBn and 50 police constables from the Goa reserve police force have been deployed for
the bandobast.

From traffic police, 1 DySP, 7 police inspectors, 18 police sub-inspectors/assistant sub-inspectors and 300 police constables/home guards have been deployed to maintain smooth flow of traffic and proper parking
of vehicles.
