She beats second seed Shanvi Nimma 14-21, 21-17, 21-14

Navelim: Goa’s Pragya Audi lit up Day 3 of the Yonex-Sunrise All-India Sub-Junior U-13 Ranking Badminton Tournament 2025, stunning second seed Shanvi Nimma of Telangana in the round of 32 at the Manohar Parrikar Indoor Stadium, Navelim.

Backed by an animated home crowd, the unseeded Audi clawed her way back after dropping the first game to post a memorable 14-21, 21-17, 21-14 victory and seal a berth in the Girls Singles Pre-Quarterfinals.

In Girls Doubles, Goa had more reason to cheer as local pair Avni Khyalia and Amaira Dhumatker kept their momentum rolling, ousting Andhra’s Evelyn Chavali and Sri Ponnaganti in straight games 21-14, 21-16 to book their place in the last 16.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing for the Goan contingent. In Boys Singles, state No 1 Michael Ryan Mare bowed out after a 12-21, 17-21 defeat to Karnataka’s Nakulan ND. The doubles arena saw another setback as the top Goan duo of Vishwa Parab and Samarth Sakhalkar were outclassed 5-21, 9-21 by Telangana’s Advait Sattu and Advik Shukla. Neil Punjani Bakshi also fell in straight games, going down 6-21, 4-21 to Karnataka’s Sanshray Sunil, while Khyalia, despite her doubles success, suffered a 21-17, 21-14 loss in singles to Andhra’s Keya Kosaraju.

Earlier in the day, Michael and his partner Sai Charith Abbu (Telangana) exited in the final round of Boys Doubles qualifiers, losing 15-12, 15-9 to the pair of Swarit Kumar and Ilanjithra Dev R.

Among the national frontrunners, top seed Jashwanth Mahamkali (Andhra Pradesh) was tested but prevailed 21-17, 23-21 against Rajasthan’s Anand Maderana, while third seed Nomaan Pappu (Tamil Nadu) breezed past Karnataka’s Sai Lingesh 21-6, 21-9.

Girls top seed Asha Sree Dandu (AP) cruised through both her outings in straight games, and seventh seed Anya Proddatur (TS) dismantled Thanisshta Srinivas Kumar 21-6, 21-6. The biggest doubles shocker of the day saw Andaman’s Tagu Debia and Kyon Tamin send the second seeds Adhvik Arvind and Methelan Prathima (TN) packing with a 24-22, 21-11 win.
