Panaji : The state government has announced that a new Poultry Board will be established this year to regulate poultry farming in the state and ensure the supply of high-quality poultry species.

The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services has been allocated Rs 190 crore for the financial year 2026–27. The allocation includes Rs 176 crore for revenue expenditure and Rs 14 crore for capital infrastructure.

Courses at the Goa College of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry at Curti in Ponda are set to begin in the upcoming academic year. The courses were announced to strengthen veterinary services, improve livestock support and enhance animal welfare in the state.

The government has proposed the construction of a new veterinary dispensary and training hall in Old Goa, for which Rs 5 crore has been allocated.

The government also plans to start a new veterinary facility in Usgao during the year under a Public-Private Partnership model.

New amendments have been made to the Kamdhenu Scheme to provide incentives and additional subsidies for the purchase of ten additional cows to encourage dairy farming and increase milk output.

It was also stated that during the 2025–26 budget, Rs 35 crore was approved for non-governmental organisations under the Stray Cattle Management scheme. With the participation of eight gaushalas in the state, 7,055 stray cattle have been lifted from the roads. The scheme will be further strengthened during the current year.

A 24/7 mobile ambulance service for animals will also be launched this year to provide emergency treatment and support.

Under the sterilisation and vaccination programme for stray dogs, 4,600 dogs were sterilised last year. Under Mission Rabies, the government has vaccinated 126,000 stray dogs over the past three years.
