Professor and attorney Lionel de Souza, a Goan based in the United States, has penned three books as part of his four-part ‘The Brave and Smart’ Trump series. He is currently in the process of writing the fourth book.
De Souza commenced his first book ‘Donald Trump The Bravest Man in the World’ in March 2024 starting with a holistic analysis of the U.S. political scene. With his legal background, he analysed the extreme and incessant vilification and predicted that a win for Trump was logical for anyone without the blinders of party and race. Following this, Souza, who writes under the pen name Dr. Lionel Swisson, went on to publish ‘Donald Trump The Bravest Leader in the World Restoring America’s Lost Glory’, and ‘The Brave Donald Trumpets Economic Boom for America’. His fourth book is titled ‘Donald Trump’s Bravery and Smarts to Lead the USA’.
“The Trump books fall under the genre of politico-legal, analysis, and fiction, blended with humour, sarcasm-satire,” states De Souza, adding that over the years he has also acquainted himself with various aspects of the United States, from its founding and Independence in 1776, the framing of its Constitution in 1787, the Civil War, to tales of the frontiersmen Boone, Carson, Bowie, Western heroes and villains such as Earp, the Clanton’s, Billy the Kid, the fictional Lone Ranger, the singing cowboys Autry, Rogers, and others.
Also, a passionate pianist, de Souza states that this knowledge of the U.S., combined with his legal background and supplemented with a masters in Law, Clinical Research (Ohio State University, and Business Management, in addition to a Ph.D., were critical and instrumental in helping him to analytically write in real-time about the elections, Trump, the cognitive decline of Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, and the ensuing political vitriol. Three books followed in quick succession, which, he says, was necessary with the unfolding of events in the US.
Besides his legal and writing work, de Souza, has been instrumental in promoting India globally. On November 2, 2024, he presented ‘Adopting India and Goa, India as a Global Hub for Scientific Research and Discovery, to Foster International and USA-India Business’ at Livingstone College, North Carolina, with mentee Dr. White, a U.S. military veteran. Another presentation was done in March 2025 at Howard University.
He has also published ‘Personalities of the Century’, and ‘Artificial Intelligence’ in collaboration with a leading international university in India. He also facilitates in clinical research projects between India and the U.S.A.
