Hailing from Chinchinim, Sergeu Luis is known for a variety of songs released on social media. These range on a variety of subjects ranging from social and political themes to spiritual ones. The son of late tiatrist Niquel Luis, Sergeu harboured a deep passion for the stage since his childhood. During his school days, he acted in concerts apart from being a comedian in many All Goa one-act play competitions.

Sergeu also enjoyed acting in village dramas and in 1986 was introduced on the Konkani stage by the late Antonet Rodrigues. “This was my break and soon I presented my first tiatr titled ‘Suttka’ in 1988. In those days, the ticket was priced at Rs. 2,” he remembers. ‘Tukach Lagon’ was his second tiatr and in 1990 he staged a musical show in Varca.

A good lyricist, Sergeu decided to take to social media to make his songs accessible to a larger Konkani audience in 2019. “I started my YouTube channel on December 28, 2019. The first song was ‘Amchio Goynchio Panchayati’. This was followed by 36 more songs on a variety of subjects. All my song titles have three Konkani words and I have made an effort to begin each title with all the 26 letters of the alphabet,” he shares

A total of 27 new singers have been introduced on his channel including three singers from Karnataka and two from Mangaluru. His latest track ‘Faido Kitem Meuta’ featuring three singers is currently raking up views.

Based in London, Sergeu makes it a point to keep the love for Konkani alive and thriving. “I always want to bring young singers on my channel to promote Konkani. This will also help youngsters to keep in touch with their mother tongue,” he says, adding that he is grateful to God for bestowing him with the talent for music and he will continue creating more songs.
