TIATR REVIEW JP Pereira

Roma Fernandes writes and directs, ‘Panvdde Naslolem Ghor’, her maiden venture. This is a tale of revenge, ego, and greed, where the innocents suffer.

The play opens on an election meeting. Loscar is contesting the elections and his symbol is a house. Swena interrupts the meeting and after challenging and criticising many politicians, asks Loscar if he will keep his promises. When he says yes, she asks him if he would marry her. After a bit of hesitation, he agrees. The two are married and Swena, a poor orphan, enters the household of Thomas and Magdalene, very rich people! They also have a wayward young daughter, Shika, who is into partying and drinking. Loscar loses the election, the mother is disappointed but it doesn’t end with that. Many evil things begin to afflict the family and Swena is blamed. But is she really at fault? The second half narrates, at times in flashback, the rest of the story.

The narrative keeps the audience engrossed. It is quite an interesting story with some suspense thrown in. Some characters, at times, are quite loud in making their intentions clear. Dinesh provides good light effects to sets by Ambajim. Antonette de Maina plays Swena. She acts well, with an array of flamboyant costumes. Roma is Magadelene, quite evil and treacherous. Rioma is Shika, the daughter who has many vices. She also does a cameo. Franky is Loscar, a character who has to make some drastic decisions and Pascoal Rodrigues is Thomas, the cool and confident father. Lawry Travasso portrays an important character and Saby de Divar is great in his cameo. Raymond and Juvenal do a couple of roles. Semica, Sally, Richard, Myron, and David try to create some laughter.

The band has Nolvert (trumpet), Nazareth (saxophone), Arif (keyboard), Seban (bass), and Tremson (drums). Jr. Reagan renders the opening song. There are more songs by Roma, Antonette, Rioma, Reagan, Pascoal, Lawry, Saby, Myron, Richard, Sally, Ashliff, and others.
