In an age dominated by texts and video calls, the art of handwriting is rare but not forgotten. To celebrate it, Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Miramar, will host a ‘Handwriting Competition’ for senior citizens across Goa on March 21, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. Participants will write their letters during this time, with no word limit.
The competition will close the Clube’s Centenary Year 2025-2026. “Over the past year, we organised events for all age groups but nothing specifically for seniors. This event is dedicated to them,” says chairman of the centenary celebration committee, Sanjeev Sardesai. So far, 58 participants have registered, with more expected before the competition. “We also expect walk-ins on the day, so the total could reach 80-90,” adds Sardesai.
Participants can select one of three themes: memories of their youth, a letter or advice to grandchildren, or experiences at the Clube. Judges include prominent figures from art, literature and other fields. Winners will be chosen based on the quality, style and content of their writing.
Trophies and certificates will be awarded for first and second place in Senior and Super Senior categories (in both Roman and Devanagari scripts), Best Content, Seniormost Male and Female participants and a special Jury Award. All participants will receive certificates. The award ceremony will follow the contest at 1 p.m. The competition is open to all and entry forms are available at Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias.
