Human tendency to fall for looks, especially fair skin, rather than character is highlighted by Comedian Ambe, in his new tiatr.
Sonia is rich, very happy with her social life, her ego, and her power. The riches are hard earned, by her husband Moses. But she claims control! Their son Franco, is in love with Melissa. She is poor, has a dark complexion, and her dad, Jerome, is a caretaker for bedridden people. Sonia feels the girl will not suit the family, although her son loves her and her husband is all set to welcome her. The lovers separate and through the social media, Sonia arranges her son’s marriage to Valerie. The two marry with Franco claiming it’s his ‘mother’s choice’. Valerie has her own demands, doesn’t care for the husband, and the latter takes to drinking. Friends like Richard, Ambe, and others bring him home. But there is a surprise awaiting the family as Dr. Yadav makes his appearance with a young girl. Watch the rest on stage as life takes a different turn.
The story is narrated well, with a lot to learn as the tale moves to its climax. There is plenty of humour, although the final comedy sequence could have been avoided. The band has mostly youngsters. There are good songs and some mimicry too. Jaison provides light effects to sets by Pedro Santan. The cast has real-life couple Sonia Mandrekar and Moses Gonsalves playing the parents. Sonia is great in her role while Moses is convincing as the father. Benny Mendes is Franco, emoting well as the young frustrated man. Sheena as Valerie, is quite a bounty hunter. Melissa does her role well as the rejected girl. She conveys a nice message of forgiveness to the audience. Satyawan Tari is cast well as her father while Santana Crasto is Dr. Yadav, the man with a past. Kimaya Gonsalves makes a fine debut. Nayan, Xavier, and Menino play minor roles. There is plenty of humour from Richard, Humbert, Ambe, and Amresh Kamat, adding some mimicry playing different characters. Edilas adds to the humour and manages the stage.
The band led by Anthony de Velim (trumpet) has young musicians Anzia (saxophone), Venon (drums), Richard (keyboard), and Ensly (bass) playing good music. Sheena renders the opening song. There are more songs from Xavier Gomes, Marcus Vaz, Amresh Kamat, Menino Pacheco, Melissa, Kimaya, Richard, Ambe, and Humbert.
