The 20th edition of ‘Sarngadeva Samaroha’, a seminar, workshop, and music–dance festival celebrating Indian performing arts traditions, will be held on March 25 and 26 at the
Institute Menezes Braganza, Panaji.

The programme celebrates the legacy of the 13th-century musicologist Sarngadeva, author of the seminal treatise Sangita Ratnakara, regarded as a foundational text for Indian music and dance traditions.

The two-day event aims to bring together artistes, scholars, students, and art enthusiasts to engage with India’s rich performing arts heritage. It will feature seminars, lecture-demonstrations, masterclasses, and classical dance performances highlighting the interdisciplinary connections between music, dance, and Indic cultural knowledge systems.

The ‘Sarngadeva Prasang’ (seminar and lecture demonstration) will include presentations by scholars and artistes, including Dr. Jayashree Rajagopalan, who will speak on ‘Gati Prachar: Elements of Dance Technique in Natya Shastra’, and Parwati Dutta, who will present ‘Rasaka to Rasa: Tracing the Continuity in
Dhrupadangi’.

A Sarngadeva Spandan masterclass session will introduce participants to classical dance traditions such as mohiniyattam, kathak, bharatanatyam, and odissi, providing an interactive learning opportunity for students and practitioners.

The evening segment titled ‘Sarngadeva Samaroha Dance Festival’ will feature performances by artistes including Aishwarya Harish (bharatanatyam), Sujatha Nair (mohiniyattam), Parwati Dutta (dhrupadangi), and the Mahagami Gurukul presenting odissi.

The festival is jointly organised by the Mahagami Arts Research Foundation and the Nana Shirgaonkar Chair for Indian Music – Visiting Research Professors Programme of Goa University, in collaboration with the Institute Menezes Braganza and the Directorate of Art and Culture, Government of Goa. It is open to the public via
prior registration.
