Villagers of Camorlim, on Sunday, urged the sarpanch to convene a special gram sabha to present proposals for multi-dwelling constructions to ensure that villagers are apprised before the panchayat takes any decision.

The resolution was put forth by Cedric D’Souza during the ordinary gram sabha held on Sunday.

“I urge the sarpanch to convene a special gram sabha immediately upon receipt of any multi-dwelling construction proposal by the panchayat. This will enable the villagers to gain insight into such proposals within the stipulated time frame of 30 days, prior to the panchayat’s deliberation,” D’Souza said.

The villagers agreed, and the resolution was adopted.

Sarpanch Elvis Dias assured to display a comprehensive list of migrants residing in the village.

“I will also procure details from the police regarding the tenant verification conducted of such migrants,” he said.

Dias also assured members that a joint inspection would take place at the site before any decision is made regarding the file submitted with a revised plan by one Shyamlal Morya at Gavon. Responding to a query posed by villager Jesus Romao, the sarpanch explained the findings of earlier inspections, following which a lengthy discussion was held on the matter, with a few locals seeking clarification on how the construction had secured an electricity connection.

In response to a query by Joaquim Dias about relocating the panchayat office to the ground floor, the sarpanch said the process was underway and may require at least another six months. However, he assured that special consideration would be given to special persons (disabled) visiting the office, with support provided by staff on the ground floor.

On the menace of stray cattle within the village, the locals proposed that the panchayat hold an additional meeting with cattle owners from both the village and neighbouring areas to address the concern.
