Potekar Fest 2025, curated by Festakar Marius Fernandes, brought together people from across Goa to celebrate tradition, inclusivity, and sustainability.
The festival began with the Festakar passoi, a symbolic procession from the Ghumot Museum to the balcao, where 93-year-old Anna Regina, the oldest Potekarn,
inaugurated the event.
Participants from Corlim, Panaji, Mapusa, Divar, Sarzora, and Nuvem joined the celebration, which promoted zero-waste practices. The Balçaoacheo Gozalli saw agriculturalist Miguel Braganza, former journalist Prakash Kamat, and activist Mariano Ferrao discuss Divar’s past and the impact of social media on traditions.
Cultural highlights included the Kottieacho Nach (Coconut Shell Dance) by Gwendolyn de Ornelas, live Konkani music by Jacqueline Alvares and Leena Fernandes, and a Doce de Grao workshop by Gwendolyn and Dorothy De Souza.
Marius shared: “This marked our 98th community festival, and we are grateful to everyone who made
it possible.”
