State unit of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Saturday said that the Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) report of the Union Education Ministry for 2023-24 has exposed the pathetic state of Goa government in terms of education.
Addressing a press conference in Panaji, AAP Goa vice-president Ramrao Wagh alleged that in the last three years, government schools have received no grants for upgrading computer labs.
“Only 170 government schools have computer facilities which are only 20 per cent of the total government schools. However, 95 per cent of the government aided schools have the computer facility,” said Wagh, adding, “When we look at Delhi, all schools have computer facility.”
He said as per the statistics released, there are 238 single teacher government schools in Goa which cater to over 3,000 students.
He also said that despite earlier initiatives to provide laptops and tablets to students, these programs have been discontinued.
“Why can’t the government provide facilities like computers when it boasts of development? Also our main concern is the falling standard of government schools in Goa in comparison to Delhi where government schools are doing better than other schools. When the chief minister himself is the education minister, why can’t he improve the situation?” Wagh questioned.
“The pathetic state of Goa government in terms of education has been
exposed by the central government and they cannot even deny this data
as it has been provided
by the government itself,” he said.
