Popular footballer Aditi Chauhan had all the right things to say as fans of Indian football rejoice over the historic qualification of the senior women’s team to the AFC Asian Cup.
A day after India’s 2-1 win over Thailand, which earned them a direct qualification to next year’s AFC event to be held in Australia, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) announced a reward of $50,000 for the team.
While the timely cash award is encouraging, goalkeeper Aditi has urged the policymakers to think bigger. “I really hope this massive result FINALLY brings more attention, investment,” Aditi posted on X.
“It’s about time that the women’s team matches get broadcast on National TV. Can’t believe we had to watch the team make history on a YouTube channel of another country,” said the
32-year-old.
While all matches of the Indian women’s cricket team are telecast on Star Sports and JioStar, it is quite difficult to access the international games of the women’s national football team.
