Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, sparking speculation about a potential cabinet reshuffle in Goa.
Sawant said that he briefed Shah on several key issues, including the implementation of the new criminal laws in Goa and developments in the mining sector. He sought Shah’s guidance on advancing administrative and developmental initiatives.
However, political observers believe the timing of the meeting suggests discussions around a possible cabinet reshuffle.
The meeting comes on the heels of Speaker of the state legislative assembly Ramesh Tawadkar stating that a decision on the cabinet reshuffle would be made within 15 days.
Additionally, BJP state president Damodar (Damu) Naik has travelled to New Delhi, where he is scheduled to meet senior party leaders, including BJP national president JP Nadda.
The topic of a cabinet reshuffle gained momentum after BJP national general secretary BL Santosh’s visit to Goa earlier this month.
Santosh submitted a report on the performance of the Pramod Sawant-led government and the party’s organisational functioning, leading to discussions on assessing the performance of cabinet ministers.
While it remains unclear who might be dropped from the cabinet, sources suggest that some MLAs who defected from the Congress to the BJP are likely to be given cabinet positions.
Additionally, there are speculations that a few senior BJP legislators could also be elevated to cabinet roles in this anticipated reshuffle.
