In the case related to the Goyant Kolso Naka agitation against coal transportation, a Margao court expressed displeasure over the public prosecutor’s repeated absence while adjourning the case to June 17, warning that this would be the final opportunity for the prosecutor to appear.
The case, filed by the railway police against activists involved in the protest, has dragged on for four years, with the accused making multiple court appearances.
Speaking after the hearing, Benaulim MLA Venzy Viegas, a co-accused in the case, alleged that the government was attempting to silence dissent. “This is harassment. The fight to protect Goa started before I became an MLA, and it will continue,” he said.
Activist Abhijeet Prabhudessai accused the government of pushing coal transportation despite Supreme Court directives. “We have been forced to make endless court visits, while the prosecutor remains absent,” he added.
