Panaji: The Anti Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Goa police, as part of its efforts to crackdown on drug menace, is conducting surprise checks with the help of a police sniffer dog along the coastal belt as well as at the interstate bus stands and railway stations.

SP ANC Tikam Singh Verma said that the action is part of the Goa police’s continuous efforts to curb the drug menace in the state. Police team has started conducting surprise and random checks.

“The ANC is not only conducting regular raids and seizing substantial quantities of narcotics but is also conducting random and surprise checks of various establishments especially in the coastal belt including the major transportation hubs like railway stations, interstate bus stations, etc,” said Verma.

Police said trains and the interstate buses are said to be one of the main routes for peddlers to smuggle narcotics into the state.

During the surprise checks, the police team is also accompanied by a narcotics sniffer dog of the Goa police.

“The ANC is now keeping a stringent surveillance not only on peddlers and suppliers but also on suspected consumers. Such random checks will continue,” said Verma.
