Three teams from Goa showcased their talent at the FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) India Championship 2025, held in Pune from February 28 to March 2. Competing against 45 teams from India, Kazakhstan, Sri Lanka, and the UAE, they demonstrated technical expertise, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
Tech Infinity #25005 from Saraswat Education Society returned for their second year with 15 members from multiple schools. Curious Minds #25250 from Sanjay Centre for Special Education fielded a 10-member team, while Progressive Bots #28948 from The Progress High School, Panaji, made a strong impression despite their late entry.
Progressive Bots secured second runner-up in the Judges’ Choice Award. Tech Infinity improved its ranking from #38 last year to #23, while Curious Minds moved up from #40 to #27.
Adding a cultural touch to the event, the teams celebrated Goa’s rich heritage. Tech Infinity showcased Shigmotsav with a float-themed design and dance. Curious Minds decorated their space with a Carnival theme, while Progressive Bots highlighted Christmas with a Koli dance performance.
A special moment was when Vedang Anay Kamat, a Class 4 student from Tech Infinity, became the youngest driver in FTC India history.
Reflecting on the experience, Aaron Venn Rodrigues (Curious Minds) shares, “I’ve not only learned about robotics but also gained confidence in public speaking.” Abhishek Rajbhar (Progressive Bots) says, “FTC transformed me. I was scared initially, but now I feel confident.” Pearson Fernandes adds, “I was never active in school activities before, but FTC changed that.”
Mentors praised the students’ growth and determination. Mentor of Curious Minds, Royce Fernandes, says, “FTC is about problem-solving, teamwork, and resilience.” Mentor of Progressive Bots, Maya Kamat, notes, “Managing outreach, fundraising, and technical tasks felt overwhelming at first, but their dedication made all the difference.”
Another mentor, Saieesh Gandhi, emphasised the impact of such competitions. “This exposure helps students recognise their limitations and areas for improvement. As coordinators for STEM events in Goa, we strive to provide them with opportunities to find their voice, excel, and shine at the highest level.”
