In the wake of Goa’s largest-ever drug seizure worth Rs 43.2 crore at Chicolna-Bogmalo, the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) on Tuesday demanded a court-monitored probe by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) into what it described as a deep-rooted drug nexus operating in the state.
GPCC president Amit Patkar said the massive drug bust is a “chilling reminder” that Goa is rapidly turning into a narco state. “Despite repeated drug hauls, arrests and ongoing smuggling activities, the BJP government remains a mute spectators in this destruction of Goa’s social fabric,” Patkar said.
He questioned the silence of the authorities on the recurring drug cases.
“Who is protecting these smugglers? Who is allowing drugs to flow freely into our coastal villages and tourist hubs? This isn’t just an attack on Goa’s image – it is an attack on our children, our youth, and our future,” he said.
Patkar also demanded immediate suspension and investigation of any police officials or politicians suspected of having links with drug dealers, and a white paper from the state government on all drug seizures over the last five years, along with actions taken thereafter.
“We will not allow Goa to become a playground for drug lords and a haven for crime. If the government continues shielding these activities, the Congress party will launch a statewide agitation to expose and dismantle this unholy alliance between politics and drugs,” Patkar said.
