Panaji: To showcase nature-based attractions and enhance tourist experience, the state government is developing the Porvorim Creek Experience under the Swadesh Darshan 2.0 scheme.

Approximately Rs 23 crore would be spent on the development of this ambitious project.

Porvorim, North Goa’s de-facto legislative capital, is a scenic suburban enclave along the Mandovi and Mapusa rivers. With lush hills, fertile paddy fields, the serene Torda Creek and extensive mangroves, it offers a unique beyond beach tourism experience. The attractions include the Dr Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, adventure activities at Torda Creek, and tranquil river cruises for leisure and events.

“Despite numerous private boat and yacht tours, Porvorim lacks a public facility catering to tourists. To enhance accessibility and organisation, a tourist facilitation centre is planned, providing essential amenities for visitors. This initiative aims to streamline water-based tourism and boost Porvorim’s potential as a vibrant destination beyond Goa’s beaches,” the Request for Proposal (RFP) floated by Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) for selection of the agency said.

The proposed site forms parts of Salvador do Mundo Panchayat and Penha de Franca Panchayat. The work on the first phase of the project, which includes design and development period of one year, is expected to begin from April 6, while the second phase includes operations, maintenance and management period of a minimum of five years. The total area to be developed is nearly 17,000 sqm. The revenue generation shall be from the rentals, tickets, events, parking, proceeds of sale of food items, retails and items such as advertisement, brand sponsorship, accommodations, camping, etc.

The sale costs and other tariffs shall be determined by GTDC as driven by market forces, wherever not specified.
