The new Curtorim Primary Health Centre (PHC) building will feature heritage-style architecture in keeping with the village’s character, rather than a modern glass façade, said local MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco.
He recently conducted a site inspection of the PHC project along with the Curtorim police station works.
Speaking to reporters, Lourenco said the original design featured modern elements such as glass, but these have been scrapped in favour of a more traditional aesthetic. “It is a completely new building, but we want it to have a heritage look. Initially, the plan was to incorporate a glass design, which we opposed. The same goes for the police station model, which we have altered to reflect a heritage style,” he said. With Curtorim known for its rich heritage, Lourenco said that infrastructure in the village should reflect its historic identity. Demolition of the existing administrative block of the PHC is expected to begin next week. “We have given them an ultimatum to complete the demolition by Monday so that the foundation can be laid before the monsoon. Our target is to complete the first slab by the end of the month and finish the project by the end of the year,” Lourenco said.
The upcoming 20-bedded hospital, being constructed by the GSIDC, has been designed in line with health department specifications and will include essential medical facilities.
