Canacona

“Every child is blessed with an ability, so give your hundred percent to your goal and work to get it right in life,” cricketing legend and Bharat Ratna
awardee Sachin R. Tendulkar told students during his visit to Shri Mallikarjun Vidyalaya, Canacona, on Friday.

In an inspiring gesture, Tendulkar padded up briefly and defended a few deliveries bowled by class 2 student Mokshad Shambha Dessai on the newly set up indoor pitch, drawing loud cheers from students and fans. The batting icon was speaking after inaugurating the ‘Kala Krida Angan’, a
multipurpose auditorium and indoor cricket pitch at the school.

Recalling his own journey, Tendulkar said, “Though I was mischievous, I prepared for challenges with determination and focus on my goals.” He urged students never to take shortcuts, warning that taking things for granted marks the beginning of downfall. “Learn to get things right, not right now. To achieve that, you must dedicate committed hours of effort,” he said.

Tendulkar also felicitated Director of Education Shailesh Sinai Zingade during the function. A large crowd of fans gathered at the venue to catch a glimpse of their cricketing idol, with police maintaining orderly arrangements.

Among those present were CPI president and secretary of the Goa Cricket Association Shamba Naik Dessai, CMC chairperson Sara Dessai, cardiologist Dr Ajit Dessai, president of Mallikarjun temple Rajendra Dessai, and several office bearers, teachers and students.
