Kavinder named Ladakh LG; Ashim Ghosh is new Haryana Governor
Panaji: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday appointed former civil aviation minister Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju as the new Governor of Goa, who will replace incumbent Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai.
Pillai was appointed as Goa Governor on July 7, 2021. The oath ceremony of the new Governor will be held soon.
The 74-year-old Raju is a seasoned politician from Andhra Pradesh and a veteran Telugu Desam Party leader. He served as the civil aviation minister between May 27, 2014 and March 10, 2018 under Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Belonging to the royal Pusapati family of Vizianagaram, he also held key cabinet portfolios in the Andhra Pradesh government, including finance, planning, and revenue.
Raju has a vast political and administrative experienced; he has been in active politics from 1978.
He served as a member of Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly for multiple terms representing Vizianagaram. He was a member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) from 2014 to 2019.
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant welcomed the appointment of Raju as the new Governor of the state.
“On behalf of the people of Goa, I warmly welcome Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, as the Governor of our beautiful state,” he said.
Sawant stated that a seasoned statesman with vast administrative and parliamentary experience, his guidance will be invaluable as we continue our journey towards Viksit Goa 2037.
“We look forward to working closely with Governor Raju to further the development and welfare of every Goan,” the Chief Minister added.
PTI ADDS FROM NEW DELHI: Former deputy chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Kavinder Gupta was named as the new Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh.
Senior BJP leader from West Bengal Ashim Kumar Ghosh will be the new Governor of Haryana, according to an official communiqué.
The appointments will take effect from the dates they will assume charge of their respective offices, it said.
Gupta is a senior BJP leader from Jammu and Kashmir. He had been former deputy chief minister of J&K and ex-speaker of the erstwhile state’s legislative assembly.
Hailing from Jammu city’s Janipur area, 66-year-old Gupta served as the mayor of Jammu for a record three consecutive terms from 2005 to 2010.
Gupta, who is also the national executive member of Bharatiya Janata Party, will replace incumbent Brigadier BD Mishra (Retired), as Lieutenant Governor of Union territory of Ladakh.
The President has accepted the resignation of Brigadier Mishra, said the communiqué issued by the President’s office. He was appointed as the second LG of Ladakh on February 19, 2023.
Ghosh will be the new Governor of Haryana.
Ghosh, who headed the party’s West Bengal unit between 1999 and 2002, will succeed Bandaru Dattatraya.
Former labour and employment minister Dattatraya assumed charge as Governor of Haryana on July 15, 2021.
