A large number of devotees from various religious backgrounds gathered at St Jerome’s Church in Mapusa to seek the blessings of Our Lady of Milagres and thank her for favours received through her
divine intervention on the feast of Our Lady of Miracles on Monday.
In conjunction with the religious festivities, a five-day entertainment extravaganza, Milagres Fiesta 2025, within the church compound, commenced on the feast day.
The fest day saw the solemn feast Mass celebrated by Fr Edson Fernandes, joined by Parish Priest Fr Leonardo Morais, Fr Savio Pinto, Fr Agustin Alfonso, and other clergy.
Hundreds of faithful filled the church premises to participate in the Eucharistic celebration through the day.
A longstanding tradition saw devotees fulfilling vows by pouring coconut oil over the statue of Our Lady of Milagres, which is believed to possess
healing powers.
Offerings at the church include candles, money, and wax models of human body parts—symbolic gestures of prayers for healing and thanksgiving for blessings received. A dedicated wax-oil stall has been set up, as is customary each year, to facilitate these
devotional acts.
The festivities have also brought a festive buzz to the town with a large fair set up near the church. The fair features an array of stalls selling furniture, clothing, jewellery, toys, and more. It is expected to remain open for eight days, adding to the celebration.
