Curchorem: In a tragic incident that occurred on Sunday, a 22-year-old man from Sankhali, Shwet Gawade, allegedly accidentally shot his friend, Tanvi Ghadi (22), dead during a gathering at Kajur village in Sanguem.
According to Quepem police inspector Prashal Desai, a group of friends from Sankhali had visited the home of Deepika Gaonkar, the sister of one of the friends in the group. Police said that Gawade allegedly lifted a country-made gun kept in the house and jokingly pointed it toward Ghadi.
Unaware that the weapon was loaded, he allegedly pulled the trigger, firing a shot that seriously injured her.
Ghadi was immediately rushed toward a hospital in a private vehicle. While en route, the group encountered a ‘Robert’ vehicle, a specialised Goa police night patrolling unit, and informed the officers of the incident. The police then transported Ghadi in the patrolling vehicle to the government hospital in Quepem, where doctors declared her dead upon arrival.
The body has been sent to the South Goa District Hospital in Margao for a post-mortem examination. A case has been registered in connection with the incident as investigation continues.
