Alberto Music Academy presented its second annual student concert over two days at Barreto’s Residence, Primeiro Bairro.
The Christmas-themed programme featured 28 instrumental students and a 29-member choir, with one show held for the parents and the other was open to the public.
The evening began with a keyboard ensemble performing ‘Away in a Manger’ and ‘Up on the Housetop’, followed by keyboard solos by Chryselle Braganca with ‘Mary’s Boy Child’ and Theresa Cardoso with ‘Feliz Navidad’.
The violin ensemble presented ‘We Three Kings’ and ‘Jingle Bells’, while Rebecca Fernandes and Nash Fernandes performed the duet ‘Carol of the Bells’. Zahra Araujo rendered a clarinet solo of ‘Hark! The Herald Angels Sing’. The Kids Band added energy with ‘Frosty the Snowman’ and ‘Jingle Bells Rock’.
Voice solos were presented by Gabriel Nair, Waluscha Rodrigues, Nyssa Mendonsa, Francisco Braganca, Alyssa Mendonsa, Blanche Braganca, Merlyn Dias, Ivan, Vasco Dias and Reuben Nair.
The concert concluded with the Alberto Music Academy Choir and The Goa Choral Symphony, founded by Maestro Alberto Barreto, presenting ‘Adeste Fidelis’, ‘Mary Did You Know’, ‘Calypso Noel’, ‘Noman Noman’ and ‘Natalam’. The Konkani carol ‘Natalam, Natalam’, composed and arranged by Maestro Barreto and a Hindi carol arranged by him blended Western choral harmony with local musical styles. The performance also featured saxophonist Anthony Azavedo and trumpeter Vitorino Araujo.
