Konkani drama company Kala Chetana Volvoi will be testing their caliber on May 18 by attempting a record-breaking seven shows of ‘Gaanv Zala Zanto’ at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda

KALYANI JHA | NT BUZZ

After capturing the hearts of audiences everywhere, Konkani natak ‘Gaanv Zala Zantto’ by the theatre company Kala Chetana Volvoi is now vying for a world record.

Having previously staged three shows at three different venues in Mumbai on the same day, the team is now hoping to beat the world record of six shows on a day set by Marathi play ‘Albatya Galbatya’.

“Our actors are very hardworking. They can work in the sun for long periods if they have to. In Mumbai, after performing at three venues in a day, we still had energy left to perform more. This gave us the idea of trying to set a record of most shows done in one venue,” says writer and actor Sucheta Narverkar.

Centred around the Mhadei issue, the drama is two hours long and includes songs and dance as well. “On May 18, the first of the seven shows at Rajiv Gandhi Kala Mandir, Ponda, is going to start at 7.30 a.m. The last show may stretch till 1 a.m. at night. Time is crucial for this record breaking attempt as even a five minutes delay in one show will make a huge difference at the end of the day,” shares the producer of the show, Rajdeep Naik.

A team from the World Records Book of India will be visiting the venue to administer the record process. For this to be a record, for all the shows, artistes cannot be changed in between and all the shows should have same energy.

Naik shares that they have stopped staging any other drama for now. In preparation for this record attempt, the team has been making changes in their diet and doing voice exercises. “We are consulting doctors as well. On the day of these shows too, there will be doctors present,” says Naik.
