A petition has been filed in the High Court of Bombay at Goa by retired Indian Navy officer Cdr Atul Pant in public interest, challenging the construction of a flyover in Mormugao, claiming that the project falls within the Obstacle Limitation Surfaces (OLS).
The High Court, during a recent hearing, noted that the Area Public Information Officer had informed that no application for a No Objection Certificate (NOC) had been received regarding the flyover.
Deputy Solicitor General Pravin Faldessai submitted that no NOC had been granted and that the authorities had communicated to the Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA) that construction should be halted immediately.
A copy of this communication was also forwarded to the National Highways Authority.
The court has scheduled the next hearing of the petition for February 24, and has granted leave for the amendment of the petition to add MPDA as a respondent.
The flyover, which is part of an elevated road-cum-flyover project, connects Ravindra Bhavan junction to a new elevated road from Sada to Varnapuri/Goa International Airport, ultimately leading to MPA’s Gate No. 9.
The project also includes ramps for improved traffic circulation.
