Majorda

Fr Agnelo Youth Sports Club, Paroda, held off a spirited second-half fightback to defeat Ambelim Sports Club 2-1 in the 33rd St Rock’s Super Soccer Cup at Calata ground, Majorda, on Monday.

Paroda got off to a flying start with Salvin Fernandes tapping in from a right-wing cross to hand his side the lead. Despite Ambelim’s relentless push for an equaliser, Paroda’s backline remained resolute as the teams headed into the break with the score at 1-0.

The advantage was doubled early in the second half when Velroy Fernandes’ misplaced pass was pounced on by Regan Costa, who controlled expertly before curling a low shot into the bottom corner.

Ambelim refused to go down without a fight and clawed one back when Juricho launched a long ball from the halfway line to Rozwin Fernandes. Though his initial shot was saved, Rozwin made no mistake on the rebound to make it 2-1. Tensions flared late on as Paroda’s Livan Clemente received a straight red for a retaliatory foul on Rozwin, reducing his side to ten men. Ambelim threw numbers forward in search of an equaliser, but Paroda stood firm under pressure to close out the win.

Rozwin Fernandes was named Man of the Match for his standout display, with the award presented by Anthony Dourado.
