Taleigao

Fractures Verem Veterans carved out a narrow 1-0 win over Calangute Veterans in the Panjim Veterans Football Tournament at the Taleigao ground on Wednesday.

The decisive moment came in the first half when Steven Fernandes latched onto a pinpoint cross from former Dempo midfielder Remus Gomes to slot home the only goal of the match, giving Fractures Verem a slender lead at the break.

Calangute pushed hard for an equaliser in the second half, with former India international Robert Fernandes leading the charge and testing the defence with a series of long-range efforts. However, Fractures Verem goalkeeper Camilo Barreto stood tall between the sticks, pulling off a sensational save late in the game to preserve his side’s lead.

Calangute’s Prasant Matkar was named Man of the Match for his tireless display, with the award presented by Morgan Gomes.
