They excel in men’s team and mixed relay triathle events
Panaji: Goa secured bronze medals in both the men’s team event and mixed relay at the 38th National Games in Triathle, held in Uttarakhand.
In the men’s event, the trio of Suraj Velip, Udesh Majik, and Sunil Gaonkar clocked a combined time of 54.20 minutes across the three-discipline challenge—running (5x600m), swimming (4x50m), and shooting (4×5 hits). Suraj set the pace with a 17.02-minute time trial in the first round, while Sunil covered his leg in 19 seconds. Udesh completed the second hit in 18.36 minutes. Haryana clinched gold with a time of 51.24 minutes, while hosts Uttarakhand took silver.
In the mixed relay, Pratiksha Velip and Suraj Velip delivered a strong performance, completing the event in 18.53 minutes. The format included running (2x600m), swimming (4x50m), and shooting (2×5 hits). Maharashtra topped the podium with gold, while Haryana settled for silver.
The Goan contingent’s success came under the guidance of coaches Kirtan Vaiz and Virendra Majik, marking a significant achievement in the state’s triathle journey.
