Panaji: Goa State Disaster Management Authority has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd (MDL) to improve the state’s disaster management capabilities by way of an artificial intelligence (AI)-based system.
As part of the agreement, MDL will provide AI-based technologies to the Goa State Disaster Management Authority for early warning disaster detection system. It will also provide geo and life detection system, state-of-the-art rescue equipment, satellite-based asset management system and emergency communication system to enhance the state’s emergency response and disaster preparedness. The partnership positions Goa as a leader in AI-driven disaster management in India.
Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Ltd will also help in imparting training to government officials and to boost capacity-building. Staff will be trained in AI-based disaster detection, rescue and communication system tools and disaster response strategies.
The AI-based predictive analytics in the system will help in better disaster planning and faster response time for incidents like floods, cyclones and landslides. The system is expected to provide faster coordination and seamless communication.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Minister for Revenue Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, Chief Secretary Dr V Candavelou, IAS, Secretary (Revenue) Sandip Jacques and officials of MDL.
