Only 10 female candidates have made it to the ‘final list’ for the post of police sub-inspectors in the Goa Police, while  150 male candidates have been selected for the same post after successfully clearing the final computer based test (CBT-II).

Referring to the next process, an official said  the candidates will have to undergo and pass the basic training course at police training college/police training academy.

The Goa Staff Selection Commission (GSSC) has released the final selection list of candidates wherein nine  women in unreserved (UR) category and one  in scheduled tribes (ST) category have been selected.

Out of the 30 posts for women candidates, 14 posts were for UR, three  for ST, one  for scheduled castes (SC), nine  for other backward classes (OBC) and three  for economically weaker section (EWS).

For the posts of male PSI,  out of 157 posts, 80 posts were for UR, ST-19,  SC-3, OBC-41 and EWS-14 posts.

While in other categories, there was no issue finding the candidates.

However, in the EWS category for 14 posts, only seven  could make it to the final list. GSSC had initiated the process to recruit 30 female PSIs and 157 male PSIs. The commission had shortlisted 570 female candidates after the initial computer based test (CBT-1).

Physical standards and physical efficiency tests were conducted by the Goa Police  in November and December 2025 in which 429 women  candidates were disqualified, 127 were absent and only 14 could qualify.

Similarly, 2,279 male candidates were shortlisted, out of which 1,389 disqualified, 441 were absent and 449 cleared these tests.

Sources told The Navhind Times that several women candidates were disqualified owing to the height (minimum height 160 cm and weight not less than 45 kg) and the 100-metre run which was to be completed in 16.5 seconds.

Apart from these criteria, candidates had to clear long jump (3.25 metres) in three chances, shot put (4 kg) 4.50 metres in three chances, high jump (1.05 metres) in three chances while a 200-metre run had to be completed in 36.0 seconds.

A number of candidates failed in some of these criteria, said sources, adding that failure in any one of the tests results in disqualification.

Authorities had used the radio-frequency identification (RFID) technology for conducting running tests. It automates the measurement of performance, replacing manual stopwatches. Each candidate was given a RFID, and the time taken to complete the run was automatically recorded.

“Even an additional millisecond made a difference resulting in disqualification,” sources explained.

For male candidates, the minimum height was 168 cm;  the minimum height of 167 cm was for departmental candidates. There were other conditions – chest: unexpanded 80 cm and expanded 85 cm; 100-metre run in 15 seconds; long jump 3.80 metres (three chances), shot put (7.26 kg) 5.60 metres (three chances); high jump 1.20 metres (three chances) and 800 metres run in 2.50 minutes.

There were certain relaxations for ex-servicemen between age group of 30 to 40 years and 40 years age.

GSSC in May 2025 advertised 187 posts of police sub-inspectors – 157 male and 30 females. As of June 2025, there was a shortage of 216 PSIs in the Goa Police.

For these posts, a degree of a recognised university or three years diploma course in security and investigation technology from a recognised board/institute was the essential qualification along with the knowledge of computers.
