In the past 40 months, a total of 107 police personnel in Goa were suspended, according to official data. Of these, 12 cops were dismissed from service, while 80 were reinstated following departmental inquiries.
Fifteen police personnel remain under suspension.
The most recent suspensions occurred in July this year, when two constables were suspended for allegedly outraging the modesty of a woman at a city pub. An FIR was filed against them by the
Panaji police.
A senior police official disclosed that the suspensions stemmed from a range of issues including criminal misconduct, indiscipline, and other violations.
The suspensions were recorded between April 2022 and July 2025.
It is pertinent to note that the Goa police  received 119 complaints over the past five years relating to misconduct or unprofessional behaviour by police personnel.
Of these, 51 complaints have been resolved, while 68 remain under investigation, according to government records.
The complaints primarily involve allegations of harassment, rude behaviour, extortion, and mishandling of cases—especially those involving altercations between tourists and locals.
In response, the Goa police have been implementing various measures aimed at improving professionalism and public interaction.
Senior officials, including the Director General of Police, conduct regular briefings and behavioural training sessions to promote citizen-friendly policing.
The department has also intensified training on critical social, legal, and ethical issues such as gender sensitivity, community engagement, child rights, and proper complaint handling.
Officials said these initiatives are part of an ongoing effort to build a responsive and people-centric policing system in the state.
