Margao: AAP has called for proper road safety measures to be put in place at the turn near Dhaychomoddo, Balli, after an accident claimed the life of a youth, along with other serious incidents that have occurred at the site.

AAP state joint secretary Prashant Naik in a press statement said that a youth named Kamlesh Gaonkar (34), who was on his way to work, lost his life in an accident at the sharp curve on the Margao-Karwar National Highway near Dhaychomoddo, Balli, when a vehicle collided with his two-wheeler.

“Several people have lost their lives or suffered serious injuries in accidents at this turn and we have demanded permanent corrective measures in these accident-prone areas to prevent further tragedies,” he said. Giving details about previous fatalities at this turn, Naik said the loss of young lives is very unfortunate. “When a family’s breadwinner or head loses their life in such accidents, it brings immense grief and hardship to the entire household. The youth who died in the accident was an electrician on his way to work in Benaulim. With his death, not only has the family lost a key member, but also their hopes for a better future have been shattered. In a past incident, two youth from Padi lost their lives in a similar accident while commuting to work,”

he said.

The government, he said, must immediately implement safety measures to prevent further loss of life,  while also warning that if such incidents continue, AAP will launch a protest.
