Around 200 Goa Samagra Shiksha staff await March-April salaries

Panaji: Around 200 staff working under the Goa Samagra Shiksha (GSS) have not received their salaries for March and April. The government has cited reasons related to budget approval and receipt of funds towards its central share.

Last summer too, salaries of the staff were delayed during March, April, May and June. While salaries for January 2026 were disbursed only on February 26, salaries for February were paid on March 23. Under the centrally sponsored GSS scheme, the state receives 60% funding from the Centre, while the remaining 40% is borne by the state government. However, over the past several months, staff have repeatedly faced delays in salary disbursement due to delays in the release of the central share.

The affected employees include contractual staff working at the State Project Office (SPO), District Project Office (DPO), and Block Resource Centres (BRCs) at the taluka level. The delays have caused financial stress, especially for employees required to pay monthly EMIs and insurance premiums.

Adding to the difficulties faced by the staff, their salaries were last revised in 2018-19 and have not been enhanced for the past seven years. Furthermore, many employees are also not covered under the Employees’ Provident Fund.

The GSS staff have requested Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and the education secretary to intervene in the matter.
