Panaji: With the state assembly election drawing closer, the BJP on Friday held a meeting in the city to take stock of the works carried out by its ministers over the past four-and-a-half years.
Members of the state BJP core committee were also present at the meeting.
State BJP president Damodar Naik said ministers, including Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, participated in the meeting to discuss election strategy and review development works undertaken by their respective departments during the government’s tenure.
“One-to-one meetings with the ministers were also held,” he said, adding that the ministers were expected to give presentations on the works carried out by their respective departments.
The discussions also covered political interference in the ministers’ constituencies, competition among local leaderships and changes in political equations following the joining of new leaders in the party.
Sawant said the review meeting was held with all ministers to discuss their departments’ achievements, future plans, pending projects and schemes.
“The review was important,” he said. “We also discussed various pending projects and central government schemes.”
He said fast-tracking of projects and schemes was also discussed, with the aim of streamlining them over the next three to four months.
“I am confident that the ministers will work up to the mark and that we will be able to fulfil all the promises we have made,” said Sawant.
Sports Minister Ramesh Tawadkar said the ongoing development works were assessed and areas requiring improvement were discussed. Revenue Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate, who also attended the meeting, stated that he would support the candidate chosen by the BJP for the Santa Cruz constituency.
“We are part of the BJP, so we will support whichever candidate the BJP chooses,” he said.
