The High Court of Bombay at Goa has granted conditional bail to suspended police inspector (PI) Sunil Gudlar and head constable (HC) Mohammad Hussen Harihar, both of whom were arrested in a bribery case by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of the Directorate of Vigilance.

Earlier, the District and Sessions Court, South Goa, had rejected their bail applications.

The two policemen, attached to the Konkan Railway police station in Margao, were arrested on April 22 and subsequently suspended by the Goa Police Department. Following their arrest, they were remanded to judicial custody.

According to ACB officials, Gudlar and Harihar allegedly attempted to extort money from a goat meat trader from Belagavi by linking him to a bovine meat seizure case.

The ACB said it received a written complaint stating that the trader was being pressured to pay Rs 2 lakh upfront and Rs 25,000 monthly to PI Gudlar, with the demand relayed through head constable Harihar.

An FIR was registered after the complainant submitted transcripts and a voice recording of the alleged bribe demand. Based on this evidence, the ACB said that it laid a trap and arrested both the policemen while they were accepting an advance bribe amount of Rs 25,000.

The case is currently under investigation by the Directorate of Vigilance’s Anti-Corruption Branch.
