Calangute

The Calangute panchayat on Saturday inspected the fish market and sealed around seven shops selling chicken for mismanagement of garbage and operating without required permissions.

Calangute sarpanch Joseph Sequeira said, “We had held a meeting with chicken shop operators in Calangute panchayat jurisdiction to discuss the waste generated by them. Some vendors had attended the meeting, while others skipped it. The meeting was held mainly because the chicken waste is not accepted at the waste treatment plant.”

“Today, we visited the market and held a site inspection to check whether they possess required permissions, where they dump their waste etc. We have sealed around seven shops for mismanagement of garbage. Some shops were also found operating without required permissions,” Sequeira said.

He said such drives will continue as “we want to clean Calangute.”
