Panaji: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has operationalised a dedicated helpline to provide prompt assistance to homeless and destitute persons, as well as persons found begging, within its jurisdiction.
Citizens can report such cases by calling or sending a WhatsApp message to +91 9403687460.
Upon receiving information, CCP, in coordination with representatives of El Shaddai Charitable Trust and the departments concerned, will immediately reach the location and facilitate the rescue and transportation of homeless and destitute persons, as well as persons found begging, to designated shelter homes for care and rehabilitation.
The initiative is being implemented under a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the CCP and El Shaddai Charitable Trust as part of the Corporation’s commitment to ensuring that vulnerable individuals receive timely assistance in a humane and dignified manner.
In cases involving minor children, members of the public have been requested to contact the 1098 Child Helpline. Such children will be produced before the Child Welfare Committee and dealt with in accordance with the prescribed child protection procedures.
The Corporation has directed that all rescue and rehabilitation efforts under the initiative be carried out with compassion, dignity and respect for every individual.
The city municipal body has urged residents to report homeless and destitute persons, as well as persons found begging, who may require assistance.
“Timely information from the public will help ensure that those in need receive access to shelter, care and rehabilitation at the earliest,” a CCP press note said.
