The Goa Police will undertake physical verification/audit of CCTV cameras installed in public places with focus on vital installations including places of touristic importance.

The move comes in view of the directions issued by central agencies after the police in Ghaziabad busted a Pakistan-linked espionage racket this month.  As per reports, members from the group had installed solar-operated CCTV cameras at Delhi cantonment railway station and other areas.

Sources said the Goa Police have been asked to conduct an audit and submit a  report by April 18.

A meeting was also held in this regard which was attended by senior police officials. The sources said the police will undertake physical verification of all the CCTV cameras installed in public places, near defence locations, airports, tourist places etc. As part of the exercise, the police will check for any authorised CCTV cameras, the access controls of the authorised CCTVs etc.

It is pertinent to note that the Goa Police in October 2024 launched project ‘Netra – the third eye of Goa Police’ where 2,500 CCTV cameras installed by  private individuals and the government, were strategically mapped across the state to strengthen the law enforcement capabilities.
