Panaji: Denying “rumours” and “misinformation” over alleged move to close civilian operations at Goa International Airport, Dabolim, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday said that there is no proposal, plan, or intention on the part of the state government to shut down civilian operations at the airport.
“The airport continues to play a vital role in ensuring connectivity, supporting tourism, facilitating trade, and sustaining livelihoods, particularly in South Goa,” he maintained.
The government remains fully committed to safeguarding the interests of the people of Goa and ensuring robust air connectivity across the state, Sawant said.
“Any speculation suggesting that consent has been given to discontinue civilian services at Dabolim airport is incorrect and misleading. Goa presently benefits from a dual airport system, with operations at both Dabolim airport and Manohar international airport at Mopa,” Sawant said.
Both airports strengthen the state’s aviation capacity and enhance convenience for residents and visitors alike, he reckoned, urging all the stakeholders and people at large not to get misled by unfounded claims.
“The Goa government remains committed to transparency, development, and the continued growth of the state’s aviation and tourism sectors,” he said.
Sawant also accused the South Goa Congress MP Captain Viriato Fernandes of spreading misinformation about the closure of civil operations at Dabolim airport.
“The Congress MP is making an attempt to gain political weightage over the airport issue,” the Chief Minister remarked while speaking to mediapersons at Mantralaya, Porvorim.
