South Goa Collector Egna Cleetus on Tuesday issued a fresh directive asking owners of abandoned vehicles to claim them by submitting documentary proof within six months.
Earlier, eight unclaimed and abandoned vehicles lying within the jurisdictions of the Margao and Fatorda Traffic Cells were auctioned by the Goa Waste Management Corporation following directions issued by the District Collector.
“A new list of unclaimed and abandoned vehicles currently situated within the jurisdiction of the Margao Traffic Cell has been submitted to us,” said Cleetus.
She said that the vehicles create obstructions and serve as breeding ground for mosquitoes due to the accumulation of rainwater.
“The police have submitted that these vehicles pose a risk to public safety and may facilitate criminal activity as well. Therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 26 of the Indian Police Act, 1861, I have issued these directives,” Cleetus said. She further said that persons seeking to claim their abandoned vehicles must approach the office of the Deputy Collector at the Collectorate with the requisite documentary evidence within six months.
