Bicholim: Narve sarpanch Tukaram Gawade said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has assured them that the Ganga Sarita Ghat (Aarti Ghat) project in the village will be completed at any cost, as it is expected to boost the development of this part of Bicholim.
Locals, who have backed the project, met Sawant along with Mayem MLA Premendra Shet.
Speaking to reporters at the project site, Gawade and panch Sandesh Parsekar alleged that the matter was made controversial by Cumbarjua
MLA Rajesh Faldessai, who opposed it with support from residents of Divar and Aakhada.
It was informed that Sawant has asked Faldessai to identify land within his constituency for a crematorium, for which the government would provide assistance.
Narve villagers have decided not to allow people from outside the village to use the crematorium at Narve Tirthar for performing final rites, stating that this is necessary to maintain the sanctity of the site.
The Aarti Ghat project is estimated to cost Rs 11 crore, of which approximately 20 per cent of the work has been completed so far. The project includes various facilities intended to develop the area as a spiritual and tourist centre, said Parsekar.
