With the 14-day budget session of the assembly is scheduled to begin on March 6, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant will present the annual Budget for the financial year 2026-27 on the first day at 4.30 pm.
The Budget is expected to outline the government’s financial priorities and policy direction for
the coming year.
The session is likely to witness heated debates, with several contentious issues set to be raised by the Opposition. The political atmosphere is expected to intensify as the state is scheduled to go to the polls between December 2026 and March 2027.
Opposition parties have announced that they will raise issues related to the implementation of Section 39A of the Goa Town and Country Planning Act and concerns over the protection of agricultural land. Opposition leaders have alleged that changes under the provision could pave the way for large-scale land conversions, potentially affecting farmers and traditional land use patterns.
Protection of agricultural land is expected to be a key issue, with Opposition members likely to press for stronger safeguards against the conversion of farmland for non-agricultural purposes. Several Opposition legislators have moved private members’ bills seeking amendments to the Town and Country Planning Act and measures for the protection of agricultural land, rivers and khazan lands. The ruling BJP has prepared to counter the allegations and defend its policies. With elections approaching, discussions are also expected on infrastructure development, welfare schemes and measures aimed at strengthening
the state’s economy.
