The Congress on Thursday announced that it will organise a ‘Goem Rakhon Yatra’ from Pernem to Canacona from September 22.
The announcement was made at a Jan Kranti Sabha organised by the party.
Party leaders also said that if Congress comes to power after the 2027 elections, it would repeal “land conversion laws”, increase allocations to the health sector and
focus on employment generation.
AICC Goa in-charge and state general secretary Manikrao Thakre said the BJP was focused on winning elections rather than addressing public issues.
“They are more focused on dividing people over religion. People know this, and they also know that BJP had no contribution to the freedom struggle. I am confident that the people of Goa, and of the country, will show BJP the door,” he said.
GPCC president Girish Chodankar said protests were taking place across Goa on several issues and alleged that the government was targeting protesters by registering false cases against them.
“No sooner do we form the government, we will repeal all acts and sections that are destroying Goa and assure that traditional businesses taken over by outsiders are given back to our youth,” Chodankar said.
Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao alleged that the
BJP government had failed to deliver on promises made since 2012.
“This government has only sold the lands of Goa to provide financial benefits to its certain capitalist friends. Buying and selling people’s representatives has become the main business of this government,” Alemao said.
He further alleged that the BJP had used money, muscle power, state machinery and the Enforcement Directorate to influence elected representatives in Goa and elsewhere in the country.
