Ponda

A 22-year-old youth from Mangaluru, Karnataka, Sanjay Kevin was arrested by Ponda police on Tuesday for allegedly murdering his girlfriend Roshani Moses M by slitting her throat in a forested area near Pratapnagar,
Dharbandora.

Preliminary findings suggest a relationship dispute as the motive, poice said.

The accused was apprehended in Hubbali with assistance from
Karnataka Police.

On Monday, the body of an unidentified woman was discovered on Monday morning, around 50 metres from the Ponda-Belagavi highway. Heavy rain had washed away most evidence, but a bus ticket found in the victim’s purse helped investigators
identify the victim.

Police said the victim and accused, who had been in a relationship for five years, travelled together to Goa by bus on
Sunday. An argument during the journey reportedly led them to deboard at Piliem-Dharbandora. The accused then allegedly took the woman into a nearby forest area, where he murdered her with a knife and fled.

Police registered a murder case and circulated the victim’s photograph along with available details, leading to her identification and subsequent arrest of the suspect
within a day.

The accused is currently in police custody. Further investigation is underway.

The case was cracked under the supervision of PI Vijaynath Kavlekar and DySP Shivram Vaigankar.
