Residents of Dramapur-Sirlim have formed the ‘Voice of Dramapur-Sirlim’ to raise concerns over deficiencies in government services and press for improvements in the villages and across the state.
Addressing reporters, Maria Sequeira, Seby Soares, Dominic Noronha and other residents stated that they would seek appointments with the respective ministers to raise the issues.
They stated that the movement would continue irrespective of which government came to power next.
Sequeira raised concerns over rising electricity costs and the proposed tariff hike, as well as the Town and Country Planning department’s provision for 100% floor area ratio (FAR) in villages where it was previously limited to 60%.
Noronha flagged shortages of basic medicines at Navelim primary health centre, delays of up to 10 days in issuing blood test reports, and the need for diabetic patients to wait until 10 am on an empty stomach for blood tests.
He also raised concerns over staff shortages at the district hospital.
Soares alleged that rice distributed through the public distribution system was unfit for consumption and that wheat supplies were infested with bugs. He stated that beneficiaries collected the ration for fear of losing their ration cards.
The group stated that it would prioritise these and other issues affecting villages.
